This story came from our wire service... From what I can tell, this seems to be a nationwide trend. Anyone know if the hospital here allows them? What do you think of this hospital's policy?
Pa. hospital bans rubbery clog-like Crocs for workers, calling them a safety hazard
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Crocs, the rubbery, clog-like shoes, have been deemed inappropriate footwear for workers in patient-care areas at a hospital.
Holes that ventilate the shoes pose a safety hazard, said Sharon Krystofiak, Mercy Hospital’s infection control manager.
“If there’s a chance you could drop something like a syringe in one of them, we want to avoid that,” Krystofiak said. “Some of those holes are relatively large, almost like a dime.”
Mercy nurse Kara Depasquale, 23, was wearing Crocs on Monday, when the policy went into effect. She called it ridiculous.
“I mean, I can get a needle stuck in my arm or my leg,” Depasquale said. “I work 12-hour shifts, and I’m constantly on my feet.”
Crocs, based in Niwot, Colo., about 30 miles north of Denver, sells shoes in at least 80 countries.

I'm not positive about now, but as of several months ago, MANY of the hospital employees were wearing Crocs!
While I understand the safety issue, with the "holy shoes," they can't just ban everything...what about latex, etc. gloves that are worn on the hands? A needle could go right through those. Life itself is a risk...and I feel that banning crocks in medical facilities is...well, a CROCK!
As a healthcare worker, I wear Crocs and don't know what I'd do without them. In fact I wore a pair of them to work tonight! They are so comfortable and I have lots less back pain because of them. I kind of agree with the "holey" issue though. I wear the "metro" croc style (that they don't make anymore) that doesn't have holes in the top. They do have vent holes on the side. Also Crocs just came out with a special style specifically for wearing in the hospital. No holes, thicker top, and higher lip in the back.
I haven't seen the new Crocs yet, but it sounds like they will also be more appropriate for winter wear, as well. I guess I will check out Shopes and then Ebay.
